Obviously lots and lots of takes, lots of editing, lots of staged stuff. Looks reckless, but probably just well prepared and exercised.

Some of the cuts I find even annoying.

sjamley so, maybe not entirely fake, but there's at least some CGI stuff going on (all the birds!), and for sure it's entirely scripted (the tunnel, old tracks in the snow wherever he rides/jumps/lands).

engineeredlifeform well, I'm all ready to give the guy credits for being an outstanding ski rider and if this is his home resort I'm sure he knows all the jumps and landing zones. The closing scene is where it fully crosses the border from "reckless" to "outright insane" 🙂

Matthias Welwarsky he's been doing this stuff in La Clusaz all his life, the whole town knows who he is, all the lift guys know him.  The only reason there are not 1000  one of thoes days edits is because he is 32 now i think? And back in the day there were no go pro's!

sjamley There are various things that are "fake" in this video. For instance in the beginning - where do you think the camera is - you should see it in the mirror. Then he leaves the house - the swarm of birds is clearly inserted CGI. Then the two guys sitting in the lift might be fake (not so sure about it). Then the eagle when he does that jump - clearly CGI. Many of the people he "meets" are clearly choreographed to be there at this moment, and at the end, the "protest" of the guys in the lift is obviously acting. But the skiing seems real for the most part - and that´s what is impressive about this video.

At the start of the video he puts his goggles on and there's no camera on his nose. Then the frame freezes for 22 frames while he's still moving his head while adjusting the goggles in the mirror. Obviously they used a video composite. This gives us a hint of some of the video trickery to follow.

    Awesome skiing nonetheless.

taxiuniversum there's a difference between fake and film editing. The characters were planted but not fake, nothing is fake about ripping this hard.

taxiuniversum I like how you make it sound like Candide is a newcomer 🙂 for the record, he invented the sport and has done some crazier stuff in his life (D-spinning Chad's Gap at age 16 is an example). I encourage you to read and watch stuff about Candide Thovex.

tonyhs I may - yet, honestly, I never heard of him. And what "sport" do you mean he invented? Skiing? Certainly not. I am just saying that there is plenty of CGI-stuff in this video, while I believe the skiing to be real. Legit to say that, isn´t it?

taxiuniversum He's a pioneer of freestyle skiing, a legend of both Freeride and freestyle skiing, multiple winner of the X games including the first ever slopestyle competition there, considered by his peers as important to his sport as Kelly Slater would be to surfing. If you've never heard of him, I assume you've never heard of any freeskier? I'm not judging that, I just think pointing out the production value of the video (like birds or erased cameras, even if it's legit) to make it sound like the performance is somewhat faked grossly misses the point and undermines the creative input of the best freeskier of all time 🙂 Happy riding!

tonyhs What the actual fuck.. All I did was point out how elements of this clip were electronically altered. "Fake" is a strong word. But someone asked about the authenticity of the film, and I answered - apparently correctly, that the skiing is real, but that the scenes are staged and that there are CGI elements in the film (like the said birds). How does that "undermine" the "creative input" of the skier? LMAO! 😀 Over-sensitive, aren´t we? ;D

taxiuniversum You're using stronger words than "fake" here, bro. I'm sorry I couldn't get my point across, just glad you know who the guy is now. Safe rides.

taxiuniversum "But the skiing seems real for the most part". As long as you realize that "the most part" is the entire thing, we're good 🙂

The birds at 0:23 the eagle at 2:35 and the people at 4:16 (The couple on the swing and the guy to the right) Are all fake and done with CGI and it's pretty damn obvious. Pause the video multiple times during the 4:16 - 4:20 mark it's quite clear.

nope, definitely real footage. obviously spliced together with change of seasons & conditions. The purpose is entertainment. Were you entertained? My guess is you were if you sat through it and mustered the effort to comment.
